Yinson Production Unveils Name for Southeast Asia-Bound FSO

Yinson Production’s FSO Naming: A Milestone in Offshore Energy

Yinson Production, a subsidiary of Malaysia’s Yinson Holdings, recently celebrated the naming of its floating storage and offloading (FSO) unit—the FSO PTSC Lac Da Vang (FSO PTSC LDV). This event, held on June 23, marks a significant milestone ahead of the vessel’s deployment for operations at an oil field off the coast of Vietnam.

    Event Significance

The naming ceremony does more than merely celebrate the completion of a vessel; it’s also a reflection of collaborative efforts among various stakeholders. Representatives from Yinson Production, PTSC, Murphy Oil Corporation, and PetroVietnam gathered to acknowledge the joint hard work and dedication involved in bringing this project to fruition.

    Contractual Partnership

The FSO PTSC LDV has been contracted to Murphy Cuu Long Bac Oil, a wholly owned subsidiary of Murphy Oil Corporation. The contract stipulates that the vessel will provide essential storage and offloading services for the Lac Da Vang field in Block 15-1/05. This firm deal spans ten years, with an option to extend for up to five additional years. Such long-term contracts are crucial in ensuring stable operations and financial forecasting.

    Construction Timeline

The journey of the FSO PTSC LDV began with a steel-cutting ceremony in February 2025, followed by keel laying in July of the same year. The construction progressed with a launching ceremony held at Nantong Strongwind Shipyard in China on February 6, 2026. Each milestone signifies not just the technical progress but also the mounting anticipation for the vessel’s operational readiness.

    Vessel Specifications

Designed as a double-hull vessel with a remarkable storage capacity of approximately 500,000 barrels, the FSO PTSC LDV integrates advanced dual-fuel systems. This design choice significantly enhances operational efficiency while aiming to reduce emissions, aligning with global shifts toward greener energy practices.

Yinson Production emphasizes that the unit is built with a focus on safety, operational excellence, and reliability, ensuring that it meets high standards for offshore operations. As the vessel approaches the final stages of outfitting, commissioning, and testing, the anticipation for its journey to Vietnam builds.

    Operational Readiness

Upon arrival in Vietnam, the FSO PTSC LDV is expected to commence operations in the Lac Da Vang field by the fourth quarter of 2026. This position not only reinforces Yinson Production’s commitment to supporting Vietnam’s energy needs but also strengthens the long-standing partnership between Yinson and PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC).

For over a decade, both companies have collaborated successfully on various offshore assets in Vietnam, including the FSO PTSC Bien Dong 01 and the FPSO PTSC Lam Son. This history of partnership underscores the mutual trust and operational synergy developed over the years.

    Leadership Insights

Flemming Guiducci Grønnegaard, CEO of Yinson Production, expressed the importance of the naming ceremony, stating, “The naming of FSO PTSC LDV marks an important milestone in the journey towards deployment and first operations at the Lac Da Vang field.” His remarks highlight the commitment of both organizations to contribute meaningfully to Vietnam’s energy landscape and the strenuous work behind the project.

The introduction of the FSO PTSC LDV is set to bolster the offshore energy infrastructure in Vietnam and represents a commitment to sustainable and efficient energy practices. As the vessel prepares for its upcoming journey, the excitement among industry stakeholders continues to grow, paving the way for future developments in the Southeast Asian energy sector.
