EnerMech Completes Critical Pipeline Flushing and Cleaning for Subsea7 in the Gulf of Mexico
EnerMech, an integrated solutions specialist headquartered in Aberdeen, has recently accomplished a significant pipeline flushing and cleaning workscope for Subsea7, as part of a comprehensive decommissioning program in the Gulf of Mexico.

In its latest project, EnerMech undertook the flushing and cleaning of an extensive deepwater oil export pipeline, employing an integrated approach that featured high-pressure pumping, hydrocarbon filtration, and specialized vessel-based operations. This meticulous process is essential in ensuring the safe and environmentally-friendly decommissioning of oil infrastructure.
“Pipeline flushing and cleaning is a critical step in the decommissioning process and must be performed with precision. For this scope, we applied a fully integrated execution model, combining specialist equipment, strong project controls, and Gulf of Mexico experience. Our teams delivered the work safely, efficiently, and in full regulatory compliance,” stated Nuno de Sousa, Senior Vice President of Energy Solutions at EnerMech.
The process involved the effective displacement of residual hydrocarbons from the pipeline, a task that highlights regulatory compliance and environmental sensitivity. EnerMech successfully achieved a verified hydrocarbon-free status, aligning with established environmental standards—a testament to their commitment to ecological responsibility and safety.
“This award from Subsea7 reinforces EnerMech’s position as a trusted partner for complex pipeline decommissioning projects. The scope involved technically demanding work in a challenging offshore environment, requiring proven capability, experienced teams, and a relentless focus on safety. We’re proud to have delivered this program through disciplined execution and close collaboration with Subsea7,” commented Charles “Chuck” Davison, Jr., CEO of EnerMech.
This pipeline flushing and cleaning project follows closely on the heels of another success for EnerMech, who reported completion of a cleaning and preparation scope on an offshore pipeline project for Esso Australia Resources, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil. Such consecutive achievements not only underscore EnerMech’s operational prowess but also reflect their growing portfolio in the offshore energy sector.
As part of a rapidly evolving energy landscape, the significance of effective pipeline decommissioning cannot be understated. With increasing regulations and environmental standards, companies like EnerMech are setting the benchmark for operational excellence in decommissioning through innovation and collaboration. Their experience in the Gulf of Mexico, and their proven strategies in executing complex projects, position them as leaders in this space.
