GX38 Voyager: The Hybrid Expedition Yacht Revealed by GX Superyachts at the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show

GX38 Voyager Unveiled at Monaco Yacht Show 2025

During the prestigious Monaco Yacht Show 2025, GX Superyachts — the luxury brand of the Slovenian shipyard Greenline Yachts — revealed the GX38 Voyager. This remarkable aluminum explorer is equipped with a cutting-edge hybrid propulsion system that optimizes energy efficiency, allowing for extended stays onboard without the need for generators. This unveiling follows the successful debut of the GX42 RPH, introduced at the MYS 2024 and nearing its launch.

A Complete Family of Explore-friendly Yachts

The GX range is beginning to take form as a cohesive family of yachts tailored to the diverse preferences and cruising styles of various owners. The series includes models such as the GX24, GX34, the newly launched GX38 Voyager, and the upcoming GX56, all of which keep within a sub-500 GT platform. Each vessel features highly efficient energy management systems, solar integration, and parallel hybrid propulsion solutions aimed at minimizing fuel consumption, noise, and maintenance during operation.

The exterior and interior designs of the GX range are crafted by Marco Casali of Too Design, while Francesco Rogantin of Studio Names oversees the naval architecture. This robust team brings a blend of innovation and aesthetic appeal to each vessel.

    Insights from Industry Leaders

At the Monaco show, PressMare had the opportunity to speak with Vladimir Zinchenko, CEO of GX Superyachts and Greenline Yachts, alongside Fatih Kapucu, Sales and Marketing Director of SES Yachts, the Turkish shipyard selected for the construction of these exceptional yachts. Their insights provided a glimpse into the vision behind the GX project, its hybrid innovations, and various construction challenges.

PressMare: Greenline is noted for its energy efficiency. What sparked the GX Superyachts project?

Vladimir Zinchenko: The GX project is a logical progression of Greenline’s 16-year mission. It builds on our expertise with hybrid systems for vessels up to 20 meters, extending our “Responsible Yachting” philosophy to the superyacht realm. By responsible yachting, we mean more than safety and comfort; it encapsulates energy balance, environmental impact, and robust naval architecture, all aimed at restoring a true seafaring culture.

    Advanced Energy Management

PressMare: What is the energy management setup on board the GX, and how has it evolved?

Vladimir Zinchenko: Our current setup is designed to be simpler and more efficient than its predecessors. With over a thousand Greenline boats delivered globally, we’ve streamlined our energy systems to an optimized onboard demand of 640 kWh over 48 hours—a significant reduction from the estimated 1.4 MW typical for similar yachts. The GX38 Voyager aims to deliver full autonomy without relying on generators.

The yacht incorporates a 1 MW battery pack, providing silent operation devoid of vibrations, odors, or noise. Additionally, we’ve integrated a solar array capable of meeting 45% of onboard energy needs, complemented by a gas-based air conditioning system that enhances efficiency and saves energy.

    Thermal Management and Passive Strategies

PressMare: What passive thermal strategies have you implemented to reduce energy loads?

Vladimir Zinchenko: We’ve optimized glass surfaces to mitigate interior overheating and introduced a roof “eyebrow” that shades while accommodating photovoltaic panels. This setup allows us to generate up to 20 kW of solar power, enough to sustain essential systems for several hours.

    Electrification Approach

PressMare: How did you approach onboard electrification?

Vladimir Zinchenko: We chose high-efficiency components for lighting, pumps, and appliances to minimize consumption. Education on energy management is key; the crew is trained to use energy consciously, ensuring the system operates effectively while mindful of resources.

    Hybrid Propulsion and Performance

PressMare: Let’s discuss the hybrid propulsion system: how is it configured?

Vladimir Zinchenko: We opted for a parallel hybrid architecture, where the electric motor and diesel engine are mounted on the same shaft. This setup allows the electric motor to recharge the batteries when the diesel is operating, while providing propulsion when it’s off. In full-electric mode, the yacht can cruise up to a range of 100 nautical miles, significantly extending to 10,000 miles in hybrid mode.

This system not only enhances energy use but also reduces operational hours, extending the lifecycle of the components.

Construction Features of the GX38 Voyager

PressMare: What are the main construction features of the GX38 Voyager?

Vladimir Zinchenko: The GX38 spans 38 meters with a standard beam of 8.2 meters, expandable to an ultra-wide option of 9 meters. The aluminum hull can be configured for light ice-class certification. Two primary layouts are available—one tailored for Mediterranean enjoyment, complete with a pool, and the other designed for adventure seekers, accommodating various water toys and even a mini-submarine.

    Collaborative Excellence with SES Yachts

PressMare: How did the collaboration with SES Yachts begin?

Vladimir Zinchenko: We initially sought facilities suitable for constructing larger hulls but found such capabilities lacking in Slovenia. After evaluating several Mediterranean metal-construction shipyards, we selected SES Yachts for their family-oriented ethos and commitment to exceptional quality.

Fatih Kapucu: SES Yachts is a family-run enterprise with over fifty years of history. The GX42 RPH is a groundbreaking addition to our portfolio, as it embodies a hybrid propulsion system that supports extended autonomy at anchor without running generators.

Future Developments in the GX Series

PressMare: What other models are in the pipeline beyond the GX38?

Vladimir Zinchenko: We have plans for the GX34, GX42, and GX56, all utilizing the same hybrid and solar technologies. We are determined to maintain our focus on yachts that prioritize customization and innovation while avoiding the heavy investments required for larger vessels.

PressMare: When can we expect to see the GX42 afloat?

Vladimir Zinchenko: The launch is on the horizon, with a debut planned at the Cannes Yachting Festival before showcasing at the Monaco Yacht Show 2026.

This collaborative project between GX Superyachts and SES Yachts signifies a transformative step in luxury yachting, where sustainability, innovation, and personalization converge to create vessels that embrace the future of ocean exploration.
