Construction History
The initial construction of O3 began at Penne-Werft in 2018, a facility that was once part of Lürssen’s naval division, which recently underwent a reorganization. The yacht’s initial design, conceived by Norway-based Salt Ship Design, showcased a more utilitarian look, tailored to withstand harsh maritime environments. Recognized as Salt Ship Design’s first-ever private project, O3 was crafted with an ice-class hull and a distinctive inverted bow, which ensures that she can slice through swells efficiently while minimizing pitching and fuel consumption in challenging sea states.
Transition of Ownership
In a surprising turn of events in 2022, while still under construction, the original owner sold the contract for O3 to a new buyer, rumored to be American. This newfound owner was enamored with the yacht’s adventurous spirit but requested an infusion of softer styling and additional yacht-specific amenities. To accommodate these desires, the renowned design studio Espen Øino International was brought on board. The design modifications included the addition of a helipad, enhanced aft-deck space, and a swimming pool, transforming the vessel into an ideal retreat for high-seas escapades.
