Women’s participation in India’s maritime sector has witnessed a staggering increase of 340% since 2020, as announced by Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, at the recent 10th Indian Ocean Dialogue held in New Delhi. As the current chair of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) for 2025–27, India plays a pivotal role in setting maritime agendas that prioritize safety and cooperation in the region.

Courses focusing on skills like draft surveys, cargo calculations, and vessel stability are becoming essential.
