Shearwater Partners with Shell-Equinor for Expanded Collaboration

In a significant move in the offshore energy sector, Adura Operations, a joint venture between the UK’s Shell and Norway’s Equinor, has entrusted Norwegian Shearwater GeoServices with expanding its operations. This partnership signifies a commitment to enhancing oil field management in the North Sea, ensuring that the energy needs of the future are met sustainably and efficiently.

Shearwater GeoServices is set to carry out a 4D towed streamer seismic acquisition project for the Mariner field, located in the UK North Sea. This project will employ the advanced Isometrix multi-component streamer technology, which highlights Shearwater’s commitment to innovation in seismic surveying. The upcoming one-month survey is scheduled to commence in July, and it’s designed with a potential undershoot feature to enhance imaging capabilities and ensure seamless coverage around existing field infrastructure.

“Shearwater welcomes this award by Adura, extending our long-standing collaboration at the Mariner field,” stated Irene Waage Basili, CEO of Shearwater. “Monitoring reservoirs in existing fields is essential to extending field life, optimising production, and supporting energy security.” This emphasizes not only a partnership but also a strategic approach to sustaining energy resources in the North Sea, crucial for both local and global energy demands.

Just a month prior, Shearwater was also awarded a contract for approximately 220 square kilometers of seismic acquisition at the Jackdaw field, underscoring the significance of their operations within the Adura joint venture. This series of projects reflects a growing trend of utilizing innovative technologies to ensure more efficient resource extraction and management, which is especially important in today’s energy-conscious climate.

Adura Operations was established in December 2025, representing a collaborative effort between Shell and Equinor to manage offshore oil and gas operations on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS). This joint venture amalgamates interests in a vast array of producing assets and ongoing projects, including prominent fields such as Mariner, Rosebank, Buzzard, and Clair. By harnessing both Shell and Equinor’s expertise, Adura aims to elevate operational efficiency and maximize the potential of the resources in their portfolio.
