This weekend marked the grand unveiling of the second Sanlorenzo 74 Steel yacht, Virtuosity. Spanning an impressive 243 feet (74 meters), this yacht isn’t just a grand vessel; it’s a sanctuary designed to harmonize life on board with nature and wellness. The collaboration between the owner, designers, and Sanlorenzo shipyard took over four years, resulting in several innovative features that challenge conventional large-yacht design.
Sanlorenzo reveals that the journey began with weekly discussions between the owner and shipyard, laying the groundwork for how life onboard should feel long before the design phase commenced. The result? A unique blend of luxury, natural elements, and wellness-driven architecture. Among the many surprises, a living Ficus nitida tree ascends through two decks, while an aquarium-inspired lounge is nestled beneath the waterline. The beach area has been expanded significantly, complemented by a serene reflecting pool.

One of the most striking features is the living tree on the main deck. Rising through an oval opening of approximately 172 square feet (16 square meters), the Ficus nitida visually connects two decks. The design evolved around this tree, chosen by the owner prior to construction. The design team extensively researched the plant’s requirements to ensure a successful integration into the yacht’s architecture. Two skylights above the tree flood the space with natural light, enhancing the ambiance and connecting passengers with nature.
On the lower deck, Virtuosity transforms the beach area into a lavish Ocean Resort, extending about 59 feet (18 meters) from the beach platform and encompassing over 2,475 square feet (230 square meters). This expansive area is 40% larger than that of the first 74 Steel model, designed with fold-down platforms and a walkaround arrangement to foster unobstructed sea views. A stunning 301-square-foot (28-square-meter) glass-bottom pool at the stern doubles as a play area for daytime water toys and transitions into a club atmosphere come nightfall, complete with a DJ booth.

A standout wellness feature on Virtuosity is the partially submerged lounge located forward of the spa area, which includes various facilities like a hammam, sauna, and massage room. This unique space, measuring 377 square feet (35 square meters), allows guests to immerse themselves in the tranquility of underwater views while they relax and reflect.
The owner’s suite further emphasizes wellness, opting for a reflecting pool instead of a conventional swimming pool. This shallow water feature reflects the sky and light, creating a visual extension to the suite while providing removable seating and multifunctional platforms that offer adaptability. To heighten the sensory experience, a sensory shower connects the alfresco area to the interior, all within approximately 1,507 square feet (140 square meters) of private space. Nearby, another pool on the sundeck is designed for guest enjoyment, harmonizing with relaxed dining and lounge areas.

Inside Virtuosity, the design principle by Studio Paolo Ferrari emphasizes seamless surfaces and light tones accompanied by thoughtful illumination. A primary suite on the main deck features large opening glass panels that invite natural light, while custom furnishings create intimate settings for guests to admire the adjacent tree. Furthermore, a triple-height lobby showcases a striking dark-lacquered aluminum spiral staircase, alongside an elevator that encapsulates both architectural prowess and aesthetic pleasure. The bridge deck reimagines a winter garden, inviting nature indoors in a refreshing manner.
Though utilizing the same engineering platform as her predecessor, Vincenzi emphasizes a distinct departure in architectural philosophy. “We chose to rethink onboard architecture from its very foundations,” states Tommaso Vincenzi, Sanlorenzo’s CEO. He highlights the focus on integrating living elements and reshaping technical volumes into experiential environments, showcasing a unified architectural vision for Virtuosity.
