Noble Corporation Secures New Norwegian Contract with ConocoPhillips
Noble Corporation, a prominent player in the offshore drilling industry, is making waves once again with an exciting new contract awarded by ConocoPhillips Skandinavia. This collaboration will see the deployment of the Noble Interceptor, a 12-year-old jack-up rig, off the stunning coast of Norway, marking a significant milestone for both companies.
Contract Details
The contract for the Noble Interceptor focuses on operations in the Greater Ekofisk Area (GEA), situated approximately 300 kilometers southwest of Stavanger. The rig is expected to commence its work in the third quarter of 2027, with an estimated duration of 670 days.
The Noble Interceptor: A Robust Asset
Built in 2014, the Noble Interceptor features a Gusto MSC CJ70 X150 MD design that is well-suited for ultra-harsh environments. It can operate in water depths of up to 492 feet, with a maximum drilling depth reaching an impressive 40,000 feet. This capability allows it to tackle the challenges posed by harsh offshore conditions while ensuring high efficiency in its operations.

Scope of Work: Plug and Abandonment
The Noble Interceptor will engage in plug and abandonment (P&A) activities for various wells in the Greater Ekofisk Area. This area is historically significant, known for the Ekofisk field, which was first discovered in 1969. The GEA also includes a host of other productive fields, like Eldfisk, Embla, Tor, and Tommeliten A.
Interconnected platforms within the Ekofisk Complex make it a pivotal area for oil extraction, where crude oil is transported via pipeline to Teesside in the UK, while natural gas is sent to Emden in Germany. The robust infrastructure in place ensures efficient transportation and supply of resources.
ConocoPhillips Initiatives: Redevelopment Projects
Recently, ConocoPhillips has greenlit the Previously Produced Fields (PPF) project. This redevelopment initiative focuses on late-life fields, including Albuskjell, Vest Ekofisk, and Tommeliten Gamma. The project aims to bring about renewed production capabilities by 2028, significantly bolstering European gas security.
This ambitious subsea tie-back project will utilize existing infrastructure in the Ekofisk Complex. It is designed to add capacity through 11 new wells originating from four subsea templates, connected via a shared pipeline. This will enable the extraction of an estimated 90 to 120 million barrels of oil equivalent in recoverable resources.
