    NKT Eleonora Leaves Romania for Norway as Construction Advances

    NKT’s new cable-laying vessel (CLV) NKT Eleonora is currently on its journey from Romania to Norway, marking an important milestone in its construction as it prepares for the next phase of development. This innovative vessel is designed to operate on both methanol and HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) as well as marine diesel oil, highlighting a significant step towards sustainability in maritime operations.

    The official keel laying for the NKT Eleonora occurred in January 2025, just two months after the vessel’s first steel was cut. This fundamental step initiated the vessel’s journey toward final construction. In April 2026, the ship’s hull was successfully launched at Vard’s shipyard located in Tulcea, Romania, showcasing the robust engineering and design aspects that have been carefully engineered into this ambitious project.

    As of July 20, 2026, NKT Eleonora has made the significant transition from Vard Shipyards in Romania and is en route to Vard Brattvaag in Norway. This voyage marks a key phase in the vessel’s ongoing construction, as it is prepped for further outfitting and systems integration essential for its operational capabilities.

    The NKT Eleonora is configured to be equipped with advanced Wärtsilä 32 methanol engines. This choice illustrates NKT’s commitment to integrating environmentally responsible technologies, minimizing emissions, and enhancing operational efficiency. In collaboration with companies like NOV REMACUT and ABB, the vessel will feature a sophisticated cable-lay system, cranes, and mission equipment, designed to meet rigorous industry standards.

The vessel spans 176.5 meters in length and is designed to accommodate three turntables, providing a substantial cable-laying capacity of up to 23,000 tons.
