According to show organizer Stacey Cook, ticket pre-sales soared by 50% compared to previous shows. “We know that New Zealanders are increasingly taking part in boating and the show is reflecting that,” Cook notes. A recent study commissioned by NZ Marine revealed an astounding 1.9 million Kiwis participate in boating activities each year. This robust engagement contributes to a $2.9 billion industry, which continues to grow, with approximately 44,810 vessels added annually.

“The marine industry is New Zealand’s largest non-agricultural manufacturing industry,” states NZ Marine CEO Peter Busfield. Herley Boats presents a remarkable 34-foot electric catamaran, positioned as New Zealand’s first locally-produced diesel-electric hybrid for recreation. This innovative vessel offers flexibility in travel distance and duration, marking a significant step toward greener boating options.
In a similar vein, Kiwi company Sealegs has unveiled an electric amphibious tender, the 3.8TE. This 3.8-meter vessel was designed based on feedback from superyacht owners and crews, ensuring it fits seamlessly within the lazarette of larger yachts. Advanced features like Programmable Logic Switching (PLS) coupled with next-generation sensors set this tender apart in the amphibious category.
Showcasing Luxurious Craftsmanship
Among the noteworthy exhibits is the L70 yacht, one of the largest at the event, crafted by Whakatane-based Legacy Marine. This meticulously designed vessel was built for a New Zealand owner and is generating considerable excitement for its exceptional quality and size.

Running from March 23-26, the Auckland Boat Show is the largest on-water display of vessels in New Zealand, hosted in the bustling Jellicoe Harbour. The internationally-acclaimed event allows would-be buyers to take showcased vessels directly onto the Waitemata Harbour for testing, a unique aspect that enhances the buying experience.
