    In a significant advancement for renewable energy, the Denmark-based power cable manufacturer NKT has announced its participation in a groundbreaking project that connects the U.S. and Canada through an underwater high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cable. This initiative is aimed at establishing a clean energy corridor that delivers renewable Canadian hydropower to New York City, thus facilitating the city’s transition towards greener energy sources.

    The Inauguration of the CHPE Transmission Line

    NKT was actively involved in the official launch of the Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) transmission line in New York City. This project collaborates with Transmission Developers, Inc. (TDI), a subsidiary of Blackstone, and Hydro-Québec, solidifying relationships between industry leaders committed to sustainable energy solutions. The CHPE spans over 600 kilometers (approximately 372 miles), directly connecting Québec to the heart of New York City, and is expected to cover up to 20% of the city’s electricity demand.

    Renewable Power Capacity

    This transmission line is capable of delivering renewable energy essential for powering about one million households.
