According to Iberdrola, the project owner and developer, this campaign involved the installation and burial of 21 inter-array cables, resulting in a remarkable combined length of 28 kilometers. The entire operation was executed on schedule, with zero lost-time incidents reported throughout approximately 360,000 working hours. Such meticulous planning and execution underline the commitment to safety and efficiency in offshore wind energy projects.

Van Oord, a prominent player in offshore construction, spearheaded the cable installation using its specialized vessel, CLV Nexus. This crucial phase of the project was carried out under a contract that was finalized in 2024, highlighting the advanced preparations and foresight involved in modern offshore energy initiatives.

The company marked another significant milestone in this project by installing all 21 monopile foundations. This phase was completed in late 2025 using their offshore installation vessel, Svanen, underscoring the comprehensive capabilities Van Oord brings to offshore wind developments.

The Windanker offshore wind farm, boasting a capacity of 315 MW, is strategically located northeast of the island of Rügen in German Baltic Sea waters. When completed, it will represent Iberdrola’s third offshore wind farm in Germany, complementing the existing operational projects, Wikinger and Baltic Eagle. Collectively, these three installations are set to deliver a combined installed capacity of around 1.1 GW, significantly contributing to Germany’s renewable energy goals.

At the heart of the Windanker project will be 21 Siemens Gamesa 15 MW wind turbines, making it a noteworthy addition to the growing portfolio of offshore wind energy in the region. With commissioning scheduled for 2027, anticipation continues to build around the project’s potential to enhance local energy production and sustainability.
