    ExxonMobil Chooses Sercel Technology for Offshore Operations in Guyana

    ExxonMobil has recently chosen Sercel, a leading player in sensing and monitoring technology, to deliver advanced software aimed at optimizing maritime operations. This strategic move is set to support pipelay and mooring installation campaigns for a significant deepwater oil development project off the coast of Guyana.

    This collaboration is formalized under a one-year contract granted by ExxonMobil Global Projects, underlining their commitment to utilizing cutting-edge technology in their operations. Sercel will implement its Marlin solution on the Whiptail project, which is situated in the Stabroek Block, known for its rich oil reserves.

    The Marlin platform is designed to significantly enhance the management of simultaneous operations (SIMOPS). It offers a real-time, geospatial overview of concurrent offshore activities, enabling teams to maintain awareness of vessels and assets. This capability is essential for planning, coordinating, and executing operations safely, especially in environments characterized by high activity. The software comes equipped with full-system configuration, onboarding processes, operational reviews, and comprehensive 24/7 operational support.

    Jérôme Denigot, the CEO of Sercel, highlighted the importance of this technology by stating, “With offshore activity accelerating across Latin America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and West Africa, our Marlin field-proven SIMOPS solution enables operators to better manage their most complex offshore developments.” His remarks reflect a growing trend in the industry where advanced monitoring and sensing technologies are becoming increasingly vital for operational efficiency.

    The Whiptail oil project constitutes a staggering $12.7 billion investment and is recognized as ExxonMobil’s sixth initiative in the Stabroek block. This ambitious project has already generated significant attention and is poised to play a pivotal role in the development of Guyana’s oil industry. Notably, SBM Offshore has been tasked with the front-end engineering and design (FEED) work for the project’s floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit, highlighting the collaboration between leading firms in the sector.
