U.S.-headquartered energy services provider Expro has brought Enhanced Well Technologies Group (Enhanced Drilling) into its fold, extending its drilling technology capabilities.

Expro has completed the acquisition of Enhanced Drilling for approximately NOK 2 billion in cash (around $215 million) plus customary closing and working capital adjustments. This strategic move underscores Expro’s commitment to enhancing its technological arsenal within the drilling sector, enabling it to offer cutting-edge solutions to its clients.
The acquisition positions Expro as a formidable player in next-generation drilling technologies, focusing particularly on managed pressure drilling (MPD). This technique includes methods like controlled mud level drilling (CML) and riserless mud recovery, both of which are vital for enhancing drilling efficiency and safety. The integration of these advanced technologies allows Expro to provide comprehensive solutions that address the evolving needs of the industry.
Michael Jardon, Chief Executive Officer of Expro, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating: “We are pleased to welcome the Enhanced Drilling team to Expro. This is a strong strategic fit that adds a differentiated capability to our portfolio and strengthens our position in technically demanding offshore markets.” Jardon’s remarks highlight the potential for innovation and market expansion that this partnership promises.
In particular, the acquisition aligns with Expro’s goal to assist clients in improving efficiency, managing risk, and delivering wells with greater certainty. The collaborative efforts between Expro and Enhanced Drilling are expected to foster a robust expansion of their managed pressure drilling solutions, especially in regions like West Africa, Latin America, and Asia Pacific. This geographic focus aims to tap into emerging markets where the demand for advanced drilling technologies is on the rise.
Enhanced Drilling has made its mark primarily in offshore markets, with a significant presence in Norway and the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. By leveraging Expro’s global reach and extensive service network, the plan is to enhance market penetration of Enhanced Drilling’s offerings and explore new opportunities in high-demand locations. The strategy entails globalizing acquired technologies and services, which is a pivotal aspect of Expro’s growth plan.
The energy sector has witnessed a shift towards more efficient and safer drilling techniques, and Expro is keen on being at the forefront of this transformation. Last year, for example, the company reported a significant achievement in deepwater well construction, utilizing its advanced Blackhawk Gen III wireless top drive cement head with SKYHOOK technology aboard Transocean’s Deepwater Titan ultra-deepwater drillship in the Gulf of America. This innovation not only enhanced rig safety but also contributed to overall drilling efficiency.
Moreover, Expro’s recent endeavors have included winning a lucrative contract extension in the U.S. Gulf, valued at up to $25 million, which further solidifies its market position and reinforces its reputation as a leader in the energy services sector. Such contracts are vital for maintaining operational momentum and driving further innovations.
