Wison New Energies Joins Forces with Eni and Altera Infrastructure
A New FPSO for Côte d’Ivoire
In a significant move that highlights the growing importance of offshore oil and gas development in West Africa, Wison New Energies (WNE), a prominent China-based provider of clean energy services, has officially confirmed a new contract with Italy’s energy giant Eni and Altera Infrastructure. This partnership will see the construction of a new floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel, destined for deployment at the Baleine Phase 3 oil and gas development project off the coast of Côte d’Ivoire.
Project Overview and Objectives
The Baleine Phase 3 project, spearheaded by Eni, aims to bolster Côte d’Ivoire’s energy production capabilities. WNE has recently signed an engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) contract tailored specifically for this FPSO project. This development follows Eni’s previous successful endeavors in the area, including the redeployment of the FPSO Petrojarl Kong and the FSO Yamoussoukro in Baleine Phase 2.
The FPSO is designed for operations in water depths ranging from 800 to 1,200 meters. It’s engineered to process an impressive capacity of up to 90,000 barrels of oil per day, alongside 80,000 barrels of produced water and 160 million cubic feet of natural gas—significantly enhancing the region’s energy resources.
Implications for Regional Energy Needs
With the new FPSO, the Baleine Phase 3 project is projected to elevate total production to approximately 150,000 barrels of oil per day and 200 million cubic feet of gas per day. A particularly notable aspect of this endeavor is that all gas produced will be funneled back to the domestic market, addressing Côte d’Ivoire’s evolving energy needs and contributing to its overall economic growth.
Strengthening Wison New Energies’ Capabilities
This latest assignment signifies a considerable advancement for Wison New Energies and its FPSO business segment. The company is focused on amplifying its EPCIC capabilities within the global offshore oil and gas sector. WNE aims to deliver safe, efficient, and sustainable solutions for projects similar to those in Côte d’Ivoire, reflecting its commitment to fostering energy independence and security.
Industry Recognition and Innovations
Adding to the excitement surrounding the FPSO project, Wison New Energies recently received an “Approval in Principle” (AiP) from Lloyd’s Register for its new harsh environment internal turret FPSO design. This endorsement acknowledges WNE’s innovative approaches and technical capabilities, underscoring its readiness to tackle the challenges associated with offshore operations in demanding environments.
Conclusion: A Bright Future for Offshore Energy
The collaboration between Wison New Energies, Eni, and Altera Infrastructure not only represents a vital development for Côte d’Ivoire’s offshore oil and gas landscape but also signifies the growing potential of clean energy initiatives in the region. As the demand for sustainable energy solutions increases, partnerships like this pave the way for a future where resource-rich nations can effectively harness their natural assets while meeting domestic and international energy needs.
