French maritime services player Bourbon has won a multi-month subsea services contract offshore Ghana, in what the company describes as one of its core operating regions.

Bourbon will deploy its multi-purpose support vessel (MPSV) Bourbon Evolution 802, specifically designed and equipped for complex subsea operations. This particular mission will take place at the Jubilee field, where Bourbon is set to conduct vital inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR) services, including work on wellheads, cleaning the mooring chains of a floating production storage and offloading unit (FPSO), conducting survey operations, and overseeing pipeline and X-tree installations.
As part of the ongoing campaign, Bourbon has stationed approximately sixty skilled personnel on board the Bourbon Evolution 802. This team includes members of the client’s representatives, ensuring seamless collaboration and effective execution of the subsea operations.
In comments that highlight the company’s confidence in its operational capabilities, Karim Mebarek, Chief Commercial Officer of Bourbon, stated, “This contract reflects our ability to deliver integrated subsea solutions that combine engineering and offshore operations in our traditional markets. The Bourbon Evolution 802 is exactly the type of vessel that allows us to support our clients on technically complex projects, backed by a strong local presence and teams with deep expertise in the region.”
Bourbon’s presence in Ghana is not new; it has been actively involved in several campaigns in Tullow-operated fields since 2021, deploying various vessels, including the Bourbon Evolution 804. This experience not only underscores Bourbon’s commitment to the region but also its capability to adapt to the specific demands of subsea operations across different sites.
The strategic significance of this contract for Bourbon cannot be overstated. With an increasing focus on sustainable energy production in West Africa, Bourbon’s expertise in subsea services becomes even more critical. Their ability to provide integrated solutions allows them to play a crucial role in supporting oil and gas operators who require precise and efficient service delivery.
Moreover, the Jubilee field is one of Ghana’s most prolific oil fields, contributing substantially to the nation’s energy output. Operations like those undertaken by Bourbon are essential for maintaining the efficacy of the field, ensuring that production levels remain optimal while minimizing environmental impact.
The deployment of the Bourbon Evolution 802 is particularly noteworthy due to its advanced capabilities. Equipped with two work-class high-definition remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), the vessel is designed for versatility and efficiency in subsea inspections and interventions. This technological edge enables Bourbon to perform complex tasks with precision, making them a preferred partner in the region.
As Bourbon continues to expand its footprint in West Africa, the company’s focus on hiring and training local talent highlights its commitment to fostering regional capabilities. By employing local teams, Bourbon not only enhances operational efficiency but also strengthens community ties and contributes positively to local economies.
