Aker Solutions Secures Multimillion-Dollar Offshore Platform Contract in Canada

Aker Solutions: Engineering Future Success in Canada’s Oil & Gas Sector

Norwegian energy services titan Aker Solutions has landed a significant contract in the heart of the oil and gas industry in Canada. This long-term assignment focuses on engineering and maintenance work for assets situated about 350 kilometers east of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

A Substantial Agreement with Cenovus Energy

The crux of this collaboration lies in a five-year agreement valued between NOK 0.5 billion (approximately $50.6 million) and NOK 1.5 billion (around $151.8 million) with Cenovus Energy. This deal asserts Aker Solutions’ expansive role in providing crucial engineering and maintenance services to the White Rose field. Located on the eastern edge of the Jeanne d’Arc Basin, the White Rose field has been a site of significant activity and innovation in the oil and gas sector.

    Comprehensive Scope of Work

A pivotal element of Aker Solutions’ responsibilities includes comprehensive engineering, maintenance, and operational support for both the new West White Rose platform and the FPSO SeaRose. By leveraging its multi-disciplinary expertise, the company aims to enhance operational efficiency. Their work will be coordinated from Aker Solutions’ office in St. John’s, engaging around 120 employees both onshore and offshore, showcasing the commitment to local talent and expertise.

Paal Eikeseth, Executive Vice President and Head of Aker Solutions’ Life Cycle business, remarked on the company’s strategy: “We will apply our multidiscipline Project Execution Model to deliver safe, predictable, and cost-efficient operations for our customers.” This commitment reflects Aker Solutions’ philosophy of prioritizing operational safety and reliability alongside cost-efficiency.

    A Legacy of Collaboration

Aker Solutions has partnered with Cenovus Energy for over 20 years. This long-standing collaboration highlights the trust and synergy developed between the two organizations. Eikeseth emphasized the company’s dedication to supporting the White Rose development as Canada continues to represent a key market for Aker Solutions. Indeed, the firm has supported offshore engineering services at the White Rose field since 2005, offering a variety of technical and engineering solutions.

    Noteworthy Engineering Feats

The firm’s past contributions include significant milestones such as the concrete gravity structure (CGS) tow-out and installation, as well as onshore commissioning and offshore hookup for the West White Rose platform, set to commence production in 2026. This demonstrates Aker Solutions’ seasoned expertise in managing complex offshore projects.

In addition, Aker Solutions has played a vital role in delivering Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Management (EPCM) services to the FPSO SeaRose since 2005. This includes preparing for the FPSO’s recent life extension drydock (LED) campaign set for 2024, showcasing their ongoing commitment to maintaining and enhancing asset longevity within the harsh offshore environment.

    Recent Endeavors and Strategic Growth

This multi-year agreement with Cenovus Energy comes on the heels of Aker Solutions securing a front-end engineering and design (FEED) project for equinor’s gas condensate subsea tie-in development in the Norwegian North Sea. Such developments underscore Aker Solutions’ strategic growth and ability to capitalize on emerging opportunities in the global energy landscape.

    The Future of Offshore Energy

As Aker Solutions continues to expand its footprint in Canada, this partnership with Cenovus Energy sets the stage for innovations that can propel the offshore energy sector forward. The coupling of local and global expertise positions Aker Solutions as a formidable player in ensuring sustainable and efficient energy solutions for the future.

Through such collaborations, companies like Aker Solutions are not only reinforcing their market presence but also contributing to the resilience and sustainability of energy solutions in increasingly complex environments. The focus remains not only on delivering immediate results but also on fostering enduring partnerships that benefit the industry as a whole.
