Norway’s state-owned energy giant Equinor has extended its partnership with DOF Group, a leading operator in the energy and marine sectors, by prolonging an assignment on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS). The assignment involves one of DOF’s advanced anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels, the Skandi Vega.
The recent announcement from DOF confirms that the AHTS Skandi Vega will remain under contract with Equinor for an additional two years, extending its tenure until the third quarter of 2029. This extension underscores DOF’s strong backlog and positions them favorably for continued operations in the coming years.
Mons S. Aase, CEO of DOF Group, expressed excitement over the contract extension, stating, “We are happy to see Skandi Vega extended for two years, building further on an already very strong backlog for DOF for the coming years.” Aase also highlighted the vessel’s long-standing relationship with Equinor: “The vessel has been with Equinor since it was built in 2010, and we are delighted to continue to bring value to them by delivering first-class services.”
The Skandi Vega, built in 2010, is specifically designed for deepwater anchor handling operations, demonstrating impressive capability in demanding environmental conditions. This remarkable vessel measures 109 meters in length and features a working moonpool, an expansive working deck area of 1,070 square meters, and an anchor recovery frame.
With lifting capabilities that include a main winch capacity of 500 tonnes and a secondary winch of 170 tonnes, the Skandi Vega is engineered for efficiency and reliability. Its significant bollard pull of 350 tonnes underscores its strength and ability to handle various maritime tasks, making it a critical asset for Equinor’s operations.
The timing of this contract extension is also noteworthy, as it follows DOF’s recent achievement of securing a contract with TotalEnergies. This new assignment involves subsea construction, mooring, disconnection of an existing floating storage and offloading unit (FSO), and connection of a replacement FSO. Such contracts further solidify DOF’s position in the dynamic offshore energy market.
