Polish designer Dawid Konieczny has redefined the concept of compact living with his latest project—a meticulously designed 34-square-metre apartment in Warsaw’s Port Praski district. This striking space marries the interwar elegance of its waterfront setting with modern functionality, creating an inviting yet efficient living area.
A Maritime Inspiration
Drawing from the area’s storied docklands, Konieczny’s design incorporates curved walls and bespoke joinery to reflect a maritime aesthetic. He is well aware of the challenges that come with compact living and has ingeniously utilized every inch of space to convey a feeling of airiness and openness.
Transformative Layout
Konieczny completely restructured the apartment’s original layout, moving the bedroom into what was once the kitchen. This clever relocation not only optimizes the flow of the space but also introduces a new focal point around which the living area revolves. “The guiding idea behind the project was to demonstrate how much sense of space and airiness can be achieved through thoughtful functional planning,” he explains.
Seamless Curves and Built-In Features
Elements such as built-in cabinets with soft, rounded corners are a hallmark of Konieczny’s design ethos. These features create smooth transitions between different areas of the apartment. The entrance hall showcases a high-gloss lacquer applied to the joinery, delivering a bold and dramatic entry into the home.
