44 Jack-Up Rigs Relocated Ahead of Monsoon Season

Preparation for Monsoon Season: ABL’s Key Role with ONGC

In a proactive step to safeguard its offshore operations, ABL—part of the Oslo-listed global consultancy Aqualis—has partnered with India’s government-owned energy giant, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC). As the monsoon season approaches, this collaboration becomes crucial, especially for the safety and efficacy of operations in the Indian waters.

The importance of this operation cannot be overstated. ABL has successfully facilitated the completion of 44 jack-up rig moves within a tight timeframe, between March 15 and May 31, 2026. The cumulative distance covered by these relocations surpassed an impressive 5,500 nautical miles, highlighting the firm’s robust logistical capabilities in navigating maritime challenges.

Operational Excellence: Achievements in Rig Movements

Commenting on this significant milestone, Captain Stephen Craig, ABL’s Group Director for Rig Operations, stated, “This period has set new benchmarks in terms of the number of rig moves executed, total distance covered, and overall operational delivery across both the India and Middle East regions.” This statement encapsulates not just the quantitative success, but the qualitative operational excellence achieved by ABL’s teams, including tow masters and marine warranty surveyors.

This successful operation was no small feat; it required the collective efforts of geotechnical and structural engineers, as well as onshore operations teams deployed across multiple locations. The impact of this undertaking extends beyond mere numbers; it highlights ABL’s scale and its capacity to maintain high standards of safety and efficiency in offshore operations.

    Continued Collaboration and Growth

Moreover, ABL has further solidified its commitment to ONGC by facilitating an additional 75 rig moves within ONGC’s fields along India’s west coast from September 2025 through May 2026. Serving as a tow master and marine warranty surveyor during this campaign underscores ABL’s integral role in ensuring operational safety and adherence to industry standards.

The partnership not only strengthens ONGC’s operational readiness but also showcases ABL’s capability to provide comprehensive marine warranty services across a varied fleet of jack-ups and offshore production units operating in Indian waters. This aspect of ABL’s service is critical, offering a layer of protection and accountability that enhances operational security for ONGC.

Expanding Regional Presence: ABL’s Middle East Operations

As ABL continues to expand its operations and partnerships, it remains a key player in the offshore energy sector, ensuring that operational excellence and safety remain at the forefront of its endeavors.
