French provider of tubular solutions Vallourec has secured a new contract for the Atapu-2 project in the Santos Basin offshore Brazil, this time with Allseas for the supply of carbon steel seamless line pipes and thermal insulation coating.

Allseas is a prominent player in offshore engineering and is responsible for the design, procurement, construction, and installation of a riser-based subsea system specifically for the Atapu-2 project. This ultra-deepwater project focuses on developing pre-salt fields located a notable 230 kilometers offshore Rio de Janeiro, navigating challenging water depths ranging from 2,000 to 2,350 meters.
Vallourec’s latest contract involves supplying 143 kilometers of robust, carbon steel seamless line pipes complemented with a thermal insulation coating. This initiative signifies an impressive weight of approximately 19,000 tons of bare line pipe. The seamless steel pipes are pivotal for the project’s integrity, ensuring durability and resistance in the harsh subsea conditions.
The manufacturing of these line pipes will take place at Vallourec’s advanced Jeceaba mill. Additionally, the essential thermal insulation coating will be executed at the company’s facility in Serra. This dual-facility approach underscores Vallourec’s commitment to quality and reliability in the provision of tubular solutions for offshore ventures.
The actual work will harness the capabilities of Allseas’ pipelay vessel, Audacia, a sophisticated 327-meter-long ship designed specifically for this kind of operation. The deployment of the Audacia is slated for Q1 2029, marking a significant milestone in the timeline of the Atapu-2 project. This timeframe reflects careful planning and coordination required for successful offshore projects of this magnitude.
This contract builds upon a previous agreement Vallourec secured in 2024 with Petrobras, wherein they were tasked with supplying oil country tubular goods (OCTG) and accessories. Such continuity in contracts showcases Vallourec’s established reputation and expertise in meeting the demands of large-scale offshore oil and gas production.
Furthermore, the operational framework of the Atapu-2 field comprises an intricate setup where 18 wells are directly connected to the floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit through the rigid risers. This connection is vital for the efficient extraction and management of resources, highlighting the technical sophistication involved in the project.
