Independent assurance and certification body DNV recently achieved a groundbreaking milestone by awarding what is touted as the world’s first prototype certificate for a wave energy converter (WEC). Strategically installed at a depth of 45 meters, approximately 4 kilometers off the coast of Aguçadoura in northern Portugal, this prototype has been in ocean operation since 2023.
