DORIS Powers Perenco’s Revitalization and Electrification Efforts at Brazil’s Offshore Platforms

Revitalizing Offshore Energy: DORIS and Perenco’s Collaborative Efforts

In a significant development for the offshore energy sector, DORIS, a French engineering, advisory, and project management services company, is teaming up with Perenco Brazil—a subsidiary of the Anglo-French oil and gas player Perenco. Together, they are embarking on an ambitious initiative to rejuvenate two offshore platforms, PCH1 and PCH2, which have been dormant since 2020. This endeavor not only aims to restart production but also incorporates electrification strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, marking a crucial step towards sustainable energy production.

DORIS has confirmed its pivotal role in the preliminary front-end engineering design (pre-FEED) and advanced FEED phases of the Cherne revitalization and electrification project. The platforms’ history is noteworthy; commissioned in 1984, the platforms possess topsides weighing between 15,000 and 18,000 tonnes and have been sidelined since early 2020.

“Beyond the return to production, electrifying these facilities directly addresses a core challenge: optimizing the energy footprint of mature fields,” expressed a spokesperson from DORIS. The project, characterized as a complex brownfield endeavor, showcases the firm’s commitment to transforming existing assets as a means to make conventional energy sources cleaner and more sustainable.

Along with Perenco, DORIS is facilitating each phase of the project, reflecting a collaborative effort to ensure a seamless transition into this new operational chapter. In September 2025, Perenco announced a $250 million redevelopment program aimed at reinvigorating the mothballed PCH-1 and PCH-2 platforms located in Brazil’s Campos Basin. The goal is ambitious: to enhance production capabilities to 15,000 barrels of oil per day and to tap into over 50 million stock tank barrels of reserves.

This announcement follows the successful acquisition of the Cherne and Bagre concessions from Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras) in August 2025. The multi-faceted, two-year reactivation program is set to unfold in three interconnected stages, with operational safety driving all actions.

The first phase of the project is currently in progress, concentrating on the comprehensive integrity revitalization of the PCH-1 and PCH-2 platforms, including systems and associated equipment. Tasks range from refurbishing or replacing turbines and water treatment systems to modernizing metering systems and upgrading the flowlines on the upper deck.

The second phase includes a critical infrastructure upgrade: installing a new 10-inch pipeline that will connect PCH1 to the Pargo platform over a distance of 27 kilometers, eventually linking to the FSO Pargo through an existing export line. As part of the initiative to enhance the water injection system, there are also plans to lay down a water injection line between the PCH1 and PCH2 units.

The final phase will prioritize well interventions and re-entries, aiming to restart production with plans for 36 wells. This stage entails executing 21 workover campaigns and further evaluations to determine the most effective application methods for gas lift or electrical submersible pumps (ESPs).
