NextGeo Completes Trenching at African Offshore Gas Project

Naples-headquartered Next Geosolutions (NextGeo) has completed a critical post-lay trenching assignment at a gas project off the coast of Libya. This project, known as the Bouri Gas Utilisation Project (BGUP), is operated by Mellitah Oil & Gas Libyan Branch, a consortium formed by the National Oil Corporation of Libya and Eni North Africa.

NextGeo’s achievement in completing the post-lay trenching work underscores its commitment to expanding its service offerings. This integration of trenching services aligns with the company’s growth strategy, further enhancing the scope and capability of the solutions they provide to clients in the offshore energy sector.

Operational activities for the BGUP are primarily conducted in support of installation operations led by Saipem. The success of these operations also hinges on the expertise provided by Rana Subsea and the collaboration with Pharos Offshore Group, which supplied the specialized technologies used in the trenching processes.

This initiative is not just a technological achievement; it reflects NextGeo’s strategic approach of integrating expertise through industrial partnerships. This multidisciplinary strategy aims to enhance the value provided across the offshore services chain, ensuring that clients receive comprehensive solutions tailored to their specific needs.

Alessandro Buffa, CEO of Rana Subsea, remarked on this new development: “With this initiative, we are reaffirming our ability to meet the highest industry standards in trenching as well – a new service now included in the range of solutions NextGeo offers its clients, including through collaboration with strategic partners.” This statement emphasizes the capability and readiness of the teams to tackle complex engineering challenges.

Further illustrating the importance of this project, Saipem recently confirmed a significant milestone in the BGUP’s progression. This involved the successful lifting of the gas recovery module, a crucial aspect of their engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) contract focused on upgrading platforms and facilities within the Bouri gas field.
