Coupled with state-of-the-art technology upgrades, these improvements ensure that the ship meets the highest safety and comfort standards. Adding to her sustainability credentials, Silver Wind will feature an advanced wastewater treatment plant and modern food waste treatment facilities, along with new fuel-saving boilers. These upgrades represent a significant stride towards environmentally responsible cruising.
Setting Sail on New Adventures
Marking her maiden voyage on November 20, 2021, Silver Wind is set to embark on a 22-day journey to Antarctica. This expedition not only promises breathtaking views of the icy landscape but also offers passengers a unique opportunity to witness a solar eclipse on December 4, 2021. “We are converting our beloved Silver Wind into one of the most luxurious expedition ships at sea,” says Roberto Martinoli, President and CEO of Silversea. The cruise aims to cater to growing guest demand for voyages in stunning, remote destinations like Antarctica, backed by substantial investments from the Royal Caribbean Group.
New Expedition Enhancements
The upgrades for Silver Wind extend well beyond its hull and eco-friendly facilities. Preparations for immersive expedition cruising are at the forefront, ensuring passengers have close encounters with nature. Enhancements include ice-detector sonars typical of icebreaker vessels, a fleet of 24 Zodiacs, and 14 kayaks, all designed to facilitate on-water exploration.
With a reduced guest capacity of just 274, the ship aims to provide a personalized expedition experience, supported by a cadre of 28 expedition experts. These experienced professionals will share their insights during onboard lectures, guided Zodiac tours, and ashore experiences, enriching the journey for every guest. Additionally, a refitted Photo Studio, formerly the Casino, equipped with state-of-the-art photographic technology, as well as a dedicated Mudroom and a specially heated swimming pool, will elevate the onboard experience.
Revitalized Interior Spaces
Following the significant public area enhancements from 2018, Silver Wind’s recent refurbishments will continue to elevate guest comfort. The upper suites will undergo complete refurbishments, featuring new furnishings, carpets, and modern walk-in showers to accompany the existing bathtubs. In addition, updates will be made to the Vista and Veranda suites, enhancing the luxurious experience offered aboard.
Public spaces on Silver Wind will also see refreshing touches. Walls and ceilings in key areas—such as La Dame, La Terrazza, the Observation Lounge, and the Reception area—will receive fresh coats of paint, giving these venues a contemporary feel. The Gym & Beauty Salon will also be revitalized, ensuring that wellness and relaxation remain at the core of the guest experience.
