Cannes Yachting Festival 2025 Introduces Innovation Route Awards

The Cannes Yachting Festival 2025: Innovation Route Awards Unveiled

The Cannes Yachting Festival is back with a splash in 2025, showcasing the future of marine technology through its inaugural Innovation Route Awards. Launched in 2024, the Innovation Route highlights groundbreaking advancements in the nautical sector—focusing particularly on technological innovations and ecological sustainability.

    Celebrating Progress

This year’s awards have recognized exceptional contributions from 40 impressive entries. The projects highlighted are not only innovative but also aim to enhance navigation efficiency while prioritizing environmental responsibility. A distinguished jury—comprised of industry experts—carefully evaluated each submission to select the standout winners across diverse categories.

    Award Categories and Winners

The awards celebrate four key categories:

    1. Improved Navigation Experience: Watchkeeper (Sea.AI)
This cutting-edge system employs thermal imaging, machine vision, and artificial intelligence to trace floating objects, significantly boosting collision prevention measures for mariners. The integration of these technologies marks a leap towards safer sea navigation.

    2. Sustainable and Responsible Technologies: MODX 70 (MODX Catamarans)
The MODX 70 is a revolutionary 100% electric 70-foot catamaran that goes beyond mere aesthetics with its Aeroforce inflatable wings and impressive electric propulsion system. Featuring 70 square meters of solar panels for hydrogeneration, it promises a silent, emission-free existence on the water.

    3. Propulsion Systems or Alternative Energies: M.10 (Millikan Boats)
Enter the M.10, an autonomous electro-solar catamaran capable of producing up to 35 kWh per day. Its design allows for silent operation, eliminating emissions completely—a game-changer in sustainable boating.

    4. Processes or Products with Low Environmental Impact: Vaan R5 (Vaan Yachts)
The Vaan R5 sailboat embodies eco-consciousness through its construction using recycled aluminum and circular materials. An impressive 95% of its components are recyclable, marking a significant step toward sustainable boating practices.

    5. Special Jury Prize: B.Yond 37M (Benetti Yachts)
The B.Yond 37M is a 37-meter superyacht that stands out with its hybrid propulsion system, developed with Siemens Energy. This innovative vessel includes an SCR system that reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 24% and NOₓ emissions by a staggering 85%. Noteworthy features include four distinct navigation modes, including a zero-emission mode, allowing access to protected marine areas while ensuring quiet operation at anchor.

    Expert Insights

As Sylvie Ernoult, the director of the Cannes Yachting Festival, aptly puts it, “Innovation in yachting is no longer a promise; it is a concrete reality.” She emphasizes that the winners reflect a significant shift in the marine industry, with technologies like artificial intelligence and hybrid propulsion becoming the new standard for efficient, cleaner, and inspiring sailing experiences.

Ernoult also expressed her gratitude to the jury members—Guillaume Arnaud des Lyons, Thierry Berest, Jean-Christophe Guillaumin, Geoffroy Langlade, Elena Patriarca, and Craig Ritchie—for their expert evaluations in recognizing these pioneering projects. Their dedication ensured that the most visionary and promising innovations are brought to the forefront of marine engineering.

    Future of Boating on Display

All award-winning projects are currently showcased at the Cannes Yachting Festival, running until September 14, 2025. This festival is not just about glitz and glamour; it’s a platform for discussing the future of yachting, where cutting-edge designs meet eco-friendly principles.

With these developments, the yachting world is on the brink of a transformative journey, leading to a cleaner and more efficient maritime future. The Innovation Route Awards serve as a testament to the industry’s commitment to revolutionizing the way we experience the maritime world.
