Seadrill: Navigating New Frontiers in Offshore Drilling
Seadrill, an influential player in the offshore drilling sector, has recently made headlines with significant contract wins in the Americas and Asia. Headquartered in Bermuda, the company is not just expanding its footprint but also reinforcing its operational backbone amidst an ever-evolving energy landscape.
As of August 10, 2026, Seadrill’s contract backlog was approximately $2.9 billion, bolstered significantly by recent contract awards and extensions adding nearly $200 million. The West Vela drillship, built in 2013, has secured a lucrative one-year contract with Talos Energy in the U.S. Gulf. In addition to these advancements, the Sevan Louisiana semi-submersible rig has successfully secured an additional 45 days of operation, ensuring its continued deployment in the U.S. Gulf through August 2026. These recent contract engagements come on the heels of Seadrill’s earlier achievements in May 2026, where multiple contract awards contributed over $860 million to its backlog across the Americas and Africa.
