Running from December 5 to 7, this remarkable exhibition pays homage to one of the luxury jewelry brand’s most recognizable symbols: the panther. This iconic creature, a representation of strength and grace, has been deeply ingrained in Cartier’s identity and craftsmanship since the early 20th century.
The Immersive Experience
As visitors step behind a striking Cartier-red curtain, they are greeted by five “multisensory” rooms designed to explore and celebrate the maison’s heritage. The journey begins in a wrap-around structure that showcases captivating video imagery of leopards, setting the tone for a dynamic exploration of nature and design.
At the center of the opening room, a spotlight shines on the exquisite diamond Panthère de Cartier High Jewelry brooch, a masterpiece originally envisioned by Jeanne Toussaint. This brooch marks a significant milestone in jewelry design, as Toussaint was the first to integrate the panther as decor on a watch in 1914. Her innovative approach laid the groundwork for a style that continues to inspire and resonate today.
Honoring Jeanne Toussaint
The exhibit features a fascinating recreation of Toussaint’s studio, highlighted by archival pieces from her illustrious career at Cartier. Among the treasures on display are an emerald bird brooch from 1944 and a striking yellow diamond tiger bracelet from 1967. The juxtaposition of these vintage pieces with contemporary designs illustrates the timeless principles behind the Panthère aesthetic: naturalistic, graphic, and abstract.
Toussaint, affectionately known as “La Panthère,” was famous not just for her creations but also for her visionary approach to design. One of the most enchanting spaces within Cartier: Into the Wild is the Fauna Room, designed by the talented artist Clare Celeste. This area transports guests into a whimsical world featuring towering, handmade paper trees and vibrant foliage. Here, high jewelry treasures are creatively arranged amid the lush scenery, further emphasizing the connection between Cartier’s exquisite designs and the beauty of the natural world.
Hidden within the flora are impressive embellished masks representing exotic animals, including crocodiles, birds, and tigers.
