In the ever-evolving landscape of the automotive industry, the challenge of marrying timeless design with cutting-edge technology is no small feat. Chau Nguyen, the founder and CEO of Vintage Modern, Inc., has masterfully tackled this challenge since 2018 by revamping the iconic Ford Bronco. This beloved classic car is now transformed, providing enthusiasts with both nostalgic appeal and the comforts and safety features found in contemporary vehicles. Celebrity devotees such as Mark Wahlberg and Kevin Hart have added to Vintage Modern’s allure, propelling it into a notable spotlight. Recently, on an episode of CBT Now, we delved into Nguyen’s vision and the exciting ways his company is redefining the classic car market.
From a young age, Nguyen developed an insatiable passion for cars, amassing an impressive collection of over 50 vehicles by his early 20s. While he has experienced the thrills of high-end brands like Ferrari and Lamborghini, he found himself captivated by the classic design of the Ford Bronco. His journey began over a decade ago when he purchased his first Bronco, only to discover that its vintage charm was shadowed by modern-day inconveniences—loose steering, ineffective brakes, and a glaring lack of essential safety features. This personal experience sparked the creation of Vintage Modern.
Initially focusing on restoring classic Broncos, Nguyen soon recognized that simply restoring these vehicles did not fully address the desires of modern drivers. Shifting gears, he embarked on a mission to build a fully modernized Bronco that would still showcase its classic design. By 2024, Vintage Modern unveiled a completely re-engineered model, integrating a modern Ford chassis adorned with advanced safety features like airbags and traction control. This new creation mimics the driveability of luxury SUVs such as the G-Wagon and Range Rover, allowing drivers to relish the essence of vintage styling while enjoying peace of mind from contemporary technology.
Making Every Vehicle Unique
One of the standout attributes of Vintage Modern is its commitment to personalization. Clients can fully customize their vehicle, selecting from a palette of 30 paint colors, 12 interior options, and three trim finishes. This level of bespoke service ensures that each car is a unique work of art, standing out in a sea of mass-produced vehicles. As buyers increasingly seek distinctiveness, this comprehensive customization becomes a unique selling proposition, enhancing both desirability and individuality.
“We started restoring these vehicles, but we realized that people didn’t just want a restored classic Bronco—they wanted a fully modernized version that drove like a new car but still had that timeless look.”
Social media has played a crucial role in Vintage Modern’s ascent, amassing over 2 million followers on Instagram. This significant online presence has captured the attention of both celebrities and car enthusiasts. Nguyen attributes much of the brand’s success to its social media strategy, particularly through engaging and viral content that showcases the vehicles in real-world scenarios. This not only generates buzz but creates a community around the love for classic cars reimagined for modern tastes.
What’s Next
As Nguyen looks to the future, the horizon buzzes with possibilities beyond the Bronco. He is currently exploring expansion opportunities that will introduce new models, all while continuing to blend vintage-inspired designs with groundbreaking technology. By the end of this year, Vintage Modern will announce its next model, likely driven by the ongoing trend of harmonizing nostalgia with contemporary driving comforts.
