With thanks to Abu Dhabi Maritime
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is rapidly rising as one of the world’s premier yachting destinations, thanks to its luxurious marinas, world-class hospitality, and stunning coastline. Boasting dreamy weather, the UAE is the perfect winter haven for cruising not only around the Arabian Peninsula but also to the Indian Ocean treasures like the Maldives and Seychelles. With ongoing investments in yachting infrastructure, especially in Egypt along the Suez Canal and Saudi Arabia’s ambitious NEOM development, a yacht cruise from the Mediterranean to the Gulf is destined to be a lavish journey. Over the past decade, the UAE has significantly advanced its superyacht infrastructure, creating a network of experts focused on meeting the unique needs and demands of every yacht, crew, and captain.

Comprising seven emirates—Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras al Khaimah, Fujairah, Ajman, and Umm al Quwain—the UAE is mostly desert, kissed by the turquoise waters of the Arabian Gulf. With an average summer temperature soaring above 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit), air conditioning has become a national treasure for the nearly 10 million residents, most of whom are expatriates, contributing to the rich tapestry of languages spoken, including English, Hindi, and Arabic.
When to Visit on a Superyacht
Given the intense heat and humidity of summer, winter months are ideal for visiting, with average daily highs around 31 degrees Celsius (87 degrees Fahrenheit) in November and a comfortable 24 degrees Celsius (75 degrees Fahrenheit) in March. Although this period aligns with the region’s “rainy season,” actual precipitation is minimal—averaging just 3.9mm in January—making storms unlikely. The water temperature mirrors the air, offering a pleasant 24 degrees Celsius (75 degrees Fahrenheit) in January, inviting ample opportunities to enjoy water sports.

Cruising Permits and Yacht Clearance in UAE
Many nationalities can secure a complimentary visa on arrival, while others may need to arrange visas ahead of travel. Before setting sail, yachts must apply for a six-month cruising permit and obtain a separate permit for each emirate they plan to explore.
What to Do in the UAE
Abu Dhabi, the largest emirate and the capital, brims with attractions spread across its 200 islands. Visitors can marvel at the architectural beauty of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque or explore cultural highlights like the Louvre Abu Dhabi and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. For the thrill-seekers, berthing at Yas Marina during the first week of December allows for spectacular views of the F1 Grand Prix from the comfort of your yacht. Alternatively, more serene experiences await on secluded islands.

A leisurely sail along the Corniche reveals golden beaches and the impressive Abu Dhabi skyline, while Sir Bani Yas Island offers encounters with rich wildlife, including free-roaming exotic animals and protected marine life. Bu Tinah Island, part of the Marawah Marine Biosphere Reserve, boasts captivating coral formations and diverse sea life, perfect for an eco-friendly visit.
Al Ain, known as the Garden City, mesmerizes with its lush landscapes and a deep connection to Emirati heritage recognized by UNESCO. It’s a quick drive from Abu Dhabi and should not be missed, especially the market at Souk Al Zafarana for authentic local products or the panoramic views from Jebel Hafit mountain.
Ajman, a serene coastal enclave, offers an intimate experience with six-star hospitality. Make it a point to witness the exciting camel races or the annual Camel Beauty Pageant for a taste of local culture, all while relaxing on some of the UAE’s most picturesque beaches.

Dubai stands as the most populated emirate, where luxury manifests in shopping, dining, and nightlife. The awe-inspiring Burj Khalifa and extravagant Dubai Mall await, while adventure lovers can ski indoors at Ski Dubai or bask in the floral beauty of Dubai Miracle Garden. Evening entertainment ranges from gourmet dinners at establishments led by world-class chefs to exhilarating nights at trendy nightclubs.
During marquee events like the Dubai World Cup in March or the Race to Dubai in November, you can feel the city’s vibrant pulse through golf and horse racing. A maritime excursion along the historic Dubai Creek will also take you past the old city and iconic modern landmarks.

Fujairah benefits from its unique positioning along the Gulf of Oman, offering dramatic mountain landscapes and water activities that stand in stark contrast to the other emirates. The capital city, Fujairah City, blends modern skyscrapers with cultural heritage through its historic fortresses and bustling souks.
Ras Al Khaimah, the northernmost emirate, captivates with its beaches and majestic mountains. Beyond its fine dining and hospitality, the emirate welcomes visitors to experience authentic Emirati culture through activities like pearl diving at Suwaidi Pearl Farm and relaxing on the shores of Al Hamra.

Sharjah, rooted deeply in Emirati tradition, focuses on preserving culture and heritage, and is notably alcohol-free, making it ideal for family-oriented activities. Discover its 16 museums, showcasing everything from Islamic art to marine life.
