Once the proud home of the Chicago Tribune, the historic Tribune Tower has been reimagined as a high-end condominium building—blending a legacy of architecture with modern luxury living.
The Tribune Tower is an ICONIC Chicago landmark known for its notable architecture, taking inspiration from Neo-Gothic European cathedrals. Originally completed in 1925 on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, it became the home of the esteemed Chicago Tribune newspaper. Today, it still stands as a luxury residence made up of 162 condominium units with more than 55,000 square feet of elevated apartments and amenities.
Initially, the picturesque landmark was commissioned by the Chicago Tribune via an architectural competition. After hundreds of entries and submissions, New York architects John Mead Howells & Raymond M. Hood won, and the skyscraper was designed and built with stone from more than 150 different historic sites from around the world. It also included elaborate carvings, Neo-Gothic structures, and breathtaking flying buttresses.

When it was first built, the Tribune Tower housed expansive editorial offices and printing operations for the newspaper, establishing it as an epicenter for journalism in the city, as well as a national landmark.
“The original purpose of Tribune Tower was to serve as the headquarters for the Chicago Tribune newspaper. Commissioned to commemorate the paper’s 75th anniversary, it was intended to symbolize the Tribune’s influence and prestige as one of the most powerful media institutions in the United States,” explains Jeanne Martini, Tribune Tower Residences Sales Director.
After its renovations, the Tribune Tower still maintains its Neo-Gothic architectural exterior, paying tribute to its rich legacy. But where business offices and old newsrooms once stood, stunning luxury living spaces with sweeping views of the Chicago skyline have replaced them.
Tribune Tower now boasts an impressive array of breathtaking amenities designed to complement the historic elegance of the building and the contemporary needs of its residences, like a lavish pool, rooftop seating, a private park, and a wellness center.
“Tribune Tower has undergone major renovations, particularly during its recent transformation into luxury residences,” Martini says. “Completed in 2021 by CIM Group and Golub & Company, the project carefully preserved the building’s ICONIC Neo-Gothic features—such as its limestone façade, flying buttresses, and other ornate architectural details—while upgrading the infrastructure to modern standards.”
Today, the Tribune Tower still stands as one of the earliest examples of Neo-Gothic architecture in American skyscrapers. While its role in the city has evolved, the Tribune Tower continues to make history in Chicago.
