The 1916 Company Launches Jewelry and Watch Store in Ardmore

The former Govberg Jewelers has once again become a beacon of luxury and elegance in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. With the new name of The 1916 Company, the jewelers have merged with WatchBox, Radcliffe, and Hyde Park to usher in an era of refinement and expanded offerings. This transformation took place in late 2023, marking a significant change just steps away from their previous storefront. The new name honors the founding year of Govberg, providing a nostalgic nod to its rich heritage.

The new showroom encompasses an impressive 7,500 square feet—nearly double the size of the old Govberg location. This expansive space has been thoughtfully designed by Eric Lewis of E/Line Architecture in Baltimore to create an atmosphere that feels both luxurious and inviting. Visitors can expect dedicated browsing areas for those who want to casually explore the collection, along with private spaces for customers seeking personalized guidance in their selections.

With over 100 feet of meticulously curated jewelry displays, The 1916 Company showcases a variety of renowned collections. Jewelry lovers can admire exquisite pieces from brands like Dinh Van, Gumuchian, Kwiat, and Roberto Coin among many others. The bridal offerings are particularly noteworthy, featuring engagement rings, wedding bands, anniversary gifts, and custom design services, ensuring that each client’s unique love story can be beautifully represented.

The 1916 Company also proudly boasts a partnership with the Rolex Certified Pre-Owned collection, giving customers a unique opportunity to peruse and purchase meticulously maintained pre-owned Rolex timepieces. This strategic partnership highlights their commitment to providing luxury experiences while celebrating the artistry and craftsmanship inherent in fine watchmaking.

“Our new showroom is a monumental milestone for The 1916 Company and a symbol of our enduring relationship with the Philadelphia community,” shares Danny Govberg, co-founder. The showroom is designed as a space for individuals to connect, marking significant moments in their lives and crafting memories that can transcend generations. “We are honored to expand our longstanding relationship with Rolex and bring the brand to the Main Line,” he adds, emphasizing the degree of thoughtfulness embedded into the experience they now offer.

In addition to its expansive Rolex section, which features its own elegant showroom accompanied by a VIP lounge, The 1916 Company also offers other luxury watch brands such as Tudor, Breitling, IWC, and Chopard. An intimate “Horology Lounge” provides insight into independent watchmaker creations, notably from De Bethune, showcasing the art and science behind watchmaking. This commitment to horology is not merely a detail; it reflects The 1916 Company’s deep appreciation and meticulous care for its craft.

“This location reflects our dedication to offering a personalized experience to everyone who walks through our doors,” says John Shmerler, the global CEO of The 1916 Company. The moment customers arrive, they are enveloped in a thoughtfully designed environment that enhances every facet of their visit, from the landscaping to the lighting, and, of course, the impressive collections. “We’re more than just a store; we’re a part of the community,” he emphasizes, aiming to create an inviting atmosphere for clients to celebrate their most cherished milestones.

The 1916 Company welcomes guests from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays. Throughout the upcoming summer season, an exclusive calendar of watch and jewelry events promises an engaging experience for enthusiasts of fine timepieces and exquisite jewelry alike.
