Owning a piece of music memorabilia once held by iconic artists is a dream for millions. Now, that dream could become a reality, thanks to world-renowned pop star Shakira, who is offering her private 800-acre Bahamian island, Bonds Cay, for a staggering $30 million.
Shakira, the enchanting Colombian-born songstress known for her captivating voice and spirited dance moves, has teamed up with renowned bassist Roger Waters of Pink Floyd in this investment venture. The island is listed by Gavin Christie, a real estate agent from Corcoran, and is situated in the scenic Berry Islands, just 155 miles from Fort Lauderdale.
With the island bordered by the Tongue of the Ocean—a deep underwater trench known for its diverse marine life—the waters surrounding Bonds Cay are among the most bountiful in the Bahamas. The area is legendary for sports fishing, as nearby Chub Cay is dubbed the ‘Billfish Capital of The Bahamas,’ attracting enthusiasts eager to catch blue marlin, sailfish, and tuna.
Bonds Cay’s inviting landscape, characterized by pristine white-sand beaches and rich greenery, creates the perfect backdrop for relaxation. Whether you’re strolling along the shoreline, picnicking under the sun, or simply soaking in the tropical vibes, this island offers an experience like no other.
As a “cay,” Bonds Cay is formed from accumulated sediments on a coral reef, resulting in its stunning natural beauty. Christie describes the island as a paradise, noting that it feels wonderfully remote while being conveniently located just 37 miles from Nassau and 155 miles from Fort Lauderdale—granting owners the ultimate privacy without sacrificing accessibility.
With 650 acres of untouched beauty featuring sugar-like beaches and turquoise waters, Bonds Cay is a rare find. Shakira and her investment consortium purchased the property in 2006 with an ambitious vision to develop a boutique hotel, residential units, and an artist retreat. However, the island’s ecological integrity remains a priority. According to Christie, thoughtful development could create an exceptional location while preserving its natural charm.
The potential for new ownership is immense. Christie highlights that the site could evolve into a world-class resort, an exclusive community, or a secluded family retreat. The vast scale of the island inspires remarkable creativity without compromising its environmental sanctity.
