The Corporate Mentoring Programme
A significant addition for this year’s challenge is the Corporate Mentoring Programme. Notably, SBM Offshore will intensify its involvement by supporting teams from the University of Cambridge and the Université Technique de Nantes—both newcomers to the competition. This initiative aims to provide invaluable equipment and technical expertise, particularly in emerging technologies such as hydrogen propulsion and marine technology inspections. In turn, the Hydrogen and Alternative Fuels Conference on July 4—organized by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation alongside the Energy Transition Mission and the YCM—will delve into the evolving landscape of alternative energy sources.
Racing Categories: Showcasing Cutting-Edge Technologies
The 2025 Monaco Energy Boat Challenge will feature four distinctive categories, pushing the envelope of innovation:

AI Class: A groundbreaking addition focused on autonomous boats equipped with AI for navigation and energy management. With nine teams already registered, this category aims to explore how artificial intelligence can revolutionize maritime logistics and efficiency.

Energy Class: This category continues to pose an exciting challenge to competitors by requiring the development of innovative propulsion solutions based on standardized hulls. It will see 21 teams from 14 countries utilize various energy sources, including hydrogen and wind turbines, to push for sustainable solutions.

SeaLab Class: Open to prototypes up to 12 meters, this category focuses on the integration of alternative energy systems such as green methanol, featuring participation from teams like South Korea’s maiden entry.

Open Sea Class: Reserved for industry professionals, this class will showcase CE-certified zero-emission prototypes up to 25 meters, each vying for the coveted speed record.
Awards and Recognition for Innovation
As always, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation will recognize remarkable achievements in sustainability with the Sustainable Yachting Technology Award. This €25,000 prize will be awarded to the project deemed most innovative in energy efficiency and carbon emissions reduction, serving as a testament to the collaborative spirit of the challenge.
