The number of luxury yachts in Goa has also seen a rapid increase with the total number of such yachts reaching over 200 in just the last five years.
The growth of the luxury private yachting business in Goa has been nothing short of remarkable, with the industry now expanding at a rate of 8-9% in India, compared to a global average of 6-7%. Goa, often referred to as the “Thailand for youngsters in India,” is emerging as a hotspot for luxury travelers, fostering growth in its luxury tourism sector, particularly in private yachting.
In just the past five years, the number of luxury yachts in Goa has skyrocketed to over 200. These yachts are frequently hired on an hourly basis for a variety of special occasions, from anniversaries and pre-wedding photoshoots to college reunions and bachelorette parties. The unique backdrop of the Goan coastline significantly enhances the appeal of these events.
A new trend has arisen among many young couples, with an increasing number opting to propose on luxury yachts. According to Almanzo Barreto, co-founder of Grande De Goa, a luxury yacht rental company, proposals on beautifully decorated yachts, complete with champagne, romantic music, and the stunning glow of a sunset, have become incredibly popular.
Barreto emphasized that young couples are seeking unique experiences that create lasting memories, and private luxury yachts offer just that. Honeymooners also ride the waves in search of privacy and tranquility, further boosting demand for yachting experiences in Goa.
In addition to romantic gatherings, corporate events have found their place on the decks of these yachts. Companies are increasingly choosing to host annual get-togethers and gala dinners at sea, offering a high-end twist to traditional corporate events. Reward and recognition parties aboard luxury yachts are gaining traction, delivering a motivational boost to top-performing employees while providing them with unforgettable experiences.
The cost of these luxurious experiences can vary widely, depending on group size and duration of the hire. For example, a bachelorette party accommodating 20-30 guests on a yacht for about four to five hours might cost around Rs three lakh. This cost typically includes dinner, dancing, a DJ, and decorations to enhance the festive atmosphere.
Interestingly, a significant number of luxury yacht clientele are Indians hailing from states like Punjab, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Gurgaon, Chennai, and Hyderabad. This shift reflects a growing realization that the luxury experiences typically associated with international destinations such as Malaysia and Dubai can be enjoyed right in Goa.
Yacht services generally launch from Panjim, the capital of Goa, and offer thrilling journeys along the picturesque shores of Pallolem, Varca, Mobor, and Colva. However, during the monsoon season, when the sea can be less forgiving, activities shift to the calmer backwaters of the Mandovi River, ensuring that the allure of yachting remains intact year-round.
