Exclusive Ultra-Luxury Polar Expeditions to Antarctica Now Include Helicopter Landings

Scenic Eclipse is raising the bar in the ultra-luxury expedition cruising sector with the introduction of its 2022/23 Antarctica and South America program. With a reputation already solidified from its inaugural Antarctic sailing season, Scenic is set on a trajectory of innovation and luxury, promising more immersive experiences that resonate deeply with travelers’ desires for adventure and exploration.

Lisa Bolton, General Manager of Product at Scenic, expressed the company’s commitment to evolving the guest experience. “Our first season sailing the Antarctic waters was such a resounding success that we knew we had to continue to innovate with our 2022/23 program,” she stated. The Scenic Eclipse ship’s world-class engineering and design features enable unparalleled exploration, offering guests not just a cruise but a journey filled with personalized encounters in stunning destinations. Highlighting unique offerings, Bolton noted, “Our two onboard helicopters and submarine allow us to provide experiences that go beyond standard cruising options, including helicopter landings, skiing in Antarctica, and unforgettable submarine adventures in South Georgia.”

    New Voyage Highlights

One of the standout features of the new program is the introduction of a 16-day voyage titled Into the Weddell Sea. This unique expedition crosses into the Weddell Sea—an endeavor made possible thanks to Scenic Eclipse’s Polar Class 6 rating and industry-leading design. Guests sailing during the winter holidays, including Christmas and New Year’s, will enjoy 24 hours of daylight. Imagine paddling by kayak while listening to the melodic songs of Weddell seals or taking a thrilling Zodiac ride to witness massive glaciers calving in real-time. For those seeking something more interactive, scenic stand-up paddle boarding offers an up-close connection with both ice formations and wildlife.

The experience doesn’t stop there; Scenic Eclipse’s helicopter excursions have been broadened to include ice landings, allowing guests to delve deeper into the Antarctic landscape. For adventurers, the opportunity to ski on untouched slopes is nothing short of spectacular. The onboard helicopters make access to pristine areas effortless, inviting you to navigate the breathtaking terrain of Antarctica like never before.

    Discovering Underwater Wonders

Another remarkable feature of this program is the inclusion of Scenic Neptune, the first permitted submersible operating in South Georgian waters. This exceptional vessel offers guests a rare glimpse of the underwater world, diving up to 1,000 feet beneath the surface. With 270-degree views, the submarine is designed for comfort and adventure, ensuring that guests can explore the rich marine ecosystem while capturing stunning photographs—a true bucket list opportunity.

    Land Tour Extensions

In addition to the extraordinary cruise experiences, Scenic has also introduced three new eight-day land tour extensions, each with a maximum of 20 guests to ensure an intimate and personalized experience. Pricing for these excursions combines cruise and land tour rates, offering seamless package options for travelers.

The first extension, Glaciers & Wilderness, takes guests through the mesmerizing region of Argentinean Patagonia. Beginning in El Calafate and concluding in El Chaltén, travelers will not only witness the spectacular Perito Moreno Glacier but will also encounter native wildlife—all from some of the most picturesque accommodations the region has to offer, including exclusive access to the famed Explora El Chaltén resort.

The second extension, Wild Landscapes of Atacama, offers a unique exploration of Chile. Starting and ending in Santiago, this tour highlights the contrasts of vibrant urban life against the backdrop of the driest non-polar desert on Earth. Guests are treated to luxurious accommodations at the renowned Explora Atacama, ensuring relaxation after days filled with exploration.

Finally, Icons of Peru allows travelers to immerse themselves in the rich history and culture of the former Inca Empire. Beginning and ending in Cuzco, this luxury journey features stays at the luxurious explora Valle Sagrado, along with a unique experience aboard the Belmond Hiram Bingham train to Machu Picchu, ensuring guests experience the scenic landscapes that are as rich in history as they are breathtaking.
