The House of Dior’s Historic Debut in the Southeastern U.S.
The highly esteemed House of Dior is set to grace the Southeastern United States with its presence next month through a remarkable collaboration with the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). This partnership aims to showcase “Dior: Crafting Fashion,” an immersive exhibition that opens on April 16 at the SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film in Atlanta.
Curatorial Insight and Collaboration
Curated by Hélène Starkman, who is also the exhibition curator for Christian Dior Couture, and organized by Rafael Brauer Gomes, the creative director of the SCAD FASH museums, this exhibition promises an unprecedented glimpse into the iconic French luxury house’s rich history and its evolution over the years. The fusion of art, fashion, and education at SCAD brings together a notable platform for showcasing such a storied brand.
The Vision Behind the Exhibition
Olivier Bialobos, the deputy managing director of Dior, articulated the driving force behind the exhibition. “Among the primary inspirations for this exhibition is the desire to share and reveal the entire creative process that gives rise to and reinvents Dior haute couture — this laboratory in motion — from white toiles to the defile,” he explained. Bialobos noted the importance of knowledge sharing, reflecting the passion of Dior’s creative director, Jonathan Anderson. He expressed excitement about hosting this event at a university, symbolizing knowledge as a driving force.
Thematic Structure of the Exhibition
“Dior: Crafting Fashion” is meticulously divided into seven thematic sections, showcasing a diverse array of pieces curated from various Dior designers. The exhibition includes creations ranging from the legendary Christian Dior to contemporary figures like Jonathan Anderson. Visitors can expect to see toiles—mock-ups used in haute couture—thoughtfully integrated within expressive garden themes, as well as iconic Lady Dior handbags reimagined by American artists.
With over 100 historic pieces on display, many of which are presented to the public for the first time, the exhibition serves as an artful representation of the brand’s legacy.
Highlighting Dior’s Artistry
SCAD President and founder Paula Wallace emphasized the significance of the exhibition, saying, “This spring, SCAD FASH celebrates the legacy and influence of Christian Dior, who conjured fashion with the precision of architecture and the passion of poetry.” The exhibition captures the extraordinary artistry that defines Dior from the inception of toiles crafted by the ateliers to the present-day collection lines that dominate fashion runs and red carpets worldwide.
The Journey Through Creative Processes
One of the main attractions of the exhibition is its exploration into the chronology of the creative process. It showcases the comprehensive journey from the drawing board to the workshop and onto runways. The exhibit also delves into Christian Dior’s initial dream of pursuing architecture before opening an art gallery, ultimately leading to his career as a couturier.
Starkman shared, “At the heart of this exhibition… is the desire to convey the many forms that inspiration can take for a designer.” This focus on the individual designers at the helm of Dior highlights their backgrounds and how their visions contribute to the collective ethos of the house.
A Unique Learning Experience
As part of SCADstyle 2026—an event celebrating all facets of style, design, and innovation—“Dior: Crafting Fashion” will facilitate a private reception for museum members and special guests. Students from SCAD’s top-ranking programs, including fashion design, accessory design, luxury brand management, and photography, will have opportunities to engage with curators and Dior representatives through private tours and classroom lectures, enriching their learning experience.
A Legacy of Collaboration
This isn’t the first collaborative effort between Dior and SCAD. In 2025, the exhibition “Christian Dior: Jardins Rêvés” showcased in Lacoste, France, and achieved record-breaking visitor numbers. Gomes articulated the sentiment around their continued partnership: “It has been a profound privilege to collaborate again with the legendary House of Dior on this exclusive presentation for SCAD FASH.” He hopes the exhibition serves as inspiration for emerging creatives, urging them to reimagine what is possible in fashion and design.
Exhibition Timeline
“Dior: Crafting Fashion” is set to be on view from April 16 through August 23 at the SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film, marking a pivotal moment for fashion enthusiasts and artists in the Southeastern U.S. The exhibition offers an opportunity to celebrate the timeless artistry of Dior while inspiring a newer generation of designers to dream and create within the rich narrative of fashion history.
